Monday@Home vs. Libertyville:

5/1/2022

After a week of cancellations, I am happy to report that we raced twice this week! Mother Nature was not terribly cooperative. Although it was dry (thankfully), it was chilly and windy as we hosted the Wildcats on Monday. We put together a competitive lineup, and if pole vault didn't exist, we would have won the meet.

Here are some highlights from the meet:
In the field:
  • Discus:  Trynity had a great throw to earn a new LPR and taking 2nd to earn us 3 team points! Aureynah had a huge day as our second ZB finisher with a big LPR of 26.34 meters. Bri fought hard and showed growth, earning a season PR of 25.3. Nice work, throwers!
  • Long Jump:  Clara hopped into the event, earning a new lifetime PR of 3.29 meters. Nice work, Clara!
  • Triple Jump:  Katelin had a big day, earning a new LPR of 8.61 meters and taking 3rd place. It's starting to click!  :)
On the track:
  • 100 Meter Dash:  We had MANY PRs in this event, despite the cold. The underclasswomen were the one to step up:  Aniya C., Kennilyn, Madison, Zamareah, and Asiah all ran speedy lifetime PRs in this event. Way to go, young pups!  :)
  • 200 Meter Dash:  By this point in the meet, it was really cold. We had a few peeps make their debut in the event, though, and they looked awesome!  Marisa J., Sierra-Rayne, and Tati all earned LPRs despite the cold! Marisa and Sierra-Rayne also ran the 400, and Tati ran the 300 hurdles, making their performances all the more impressive!
  • 400 Meter Dash:  We made some BIG moves in this event. Veterans made impressive improvements, and newbees ran huge PRs!  Riley, Marissa W., Sierra-Rayne, Kierra, and Zamareah all earned big lifetime PRs--way to go, bees!
  • 800 Meter Run:  We had a lot of growth in this event, too. Natalie, Sofia, Illy, Adri, and Aniya made big gains to earn new LPRs. Great teamwork, bees!
  • 1600 Meter Run:  The young pups stepped up in the mile. Cheyenne and Melanie both earned big LPRs. Chey dropped 8 seconds, and Melanie courageously stepped up to run this distance despite being nervous. She ran it several times during time trials during XC, and she dropped over 90 seconds!  Great work!
  • 3200 Meter Run:  Audrey won the 2-mile for us, earning 5 points. Lauren ran a great race, pulling away from a Libertyville racer and earning us 3 more points for taking 2nd--great work you two!
  • 300 Hurdles:  Treazure won the event, running a great second half!  :)  This is her first win--congrats, Treaz!
  • 4X100 Relay:  Our relays keep getting stronger. Marisa, Taylor, Raven, and Latavia dropped more time and looked great, bringing home the win!  Our other two relays (Jada, Aniya C., Makayla, Kennilyn AND Kierra, Treazure, Chaiya, Heavon) BOTH beat Libertyville's second relay. More importantly, the handoffs and the competitiveness of these groups keeps improving. Awesome work, bees!  :)
  • 4X200 Relay:  Chaiya, Taylor, Raven, Latavia looked fantastic and bested the Libertyville squad. Jada, Aniya, Makayla, and Kennilyn looked great, too, beating Libertyville!
  • 4X400 Relay:  Audrey, Riley, Brionne and Marisa continue to impress, winning the event easily.
Overall, I was happy to see our team keep growing and working on the controllables:  effort, mindset, and team support. We can't control the weather or what other people do, but we can work on ourselves!  Let's keep that growth mindset going!

We lost to Libertyville, 76-70.  Although it might feel like a loss, anyone who has been around this team for a bit knows that we normally would not score that many points against Libertyville, a traditionally strong team. You all should be proud that we gave them a run for their money! We are starting to build a PROGRAM, and you are ALL a part of it. So proud of you all!  :)
